  Volunteer Home Repair Program (VHRP) Manager

Position Overview:

The VHRP Manager is responsible for the Volunteer Home Repair Program. Volunteer crews from corporations, organizations, churches and schools repair the exterior of qualified homes. VHRP programs are held in the Spring and Fall with 50 - 100 crews working over two weekends. Individual crews and student teams work at other times during the year.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage home repair records in database to include: entering inspection reports, materials’ lists, volunteer worksheets, and completion reports.
  • Work with VHRP inspectors to create clear and concise lists of repairs and materials for each home inspection and assign completion reports at close of VHRP program.
  • Role may include visiting homes to review work scope and completion of volunteer work.
  • Maintain a record of houses in need of repairs and status of each.
  • Track results of program and pull reports.
  • Assign homes to volunteer teams based on skill level of team and complexity of repairs on the home.
  • Identify volunteers to handle hotshot requests, example: fix locks, install doors.
  • Manage the Ramp Angels program, working with volunteer wheelchair crews and requests for wheelchair ramps.
  • Interface with homeowners regarding exterior home repair needs, scope of work and manage any issues that surface between homeowners and volunteers.
  • Determine which homes need permits and secure permits from the City of Houston.
  • Close out permits when work is completed
  • Coordinate with RTH Warehouse Manager on material orders and specialty orders
  • Consult with crew leaders and volunteers regarding repair techniques, home repair challenges and homeowner relations
  • Prepare materials for crew leaders for Crew Leader training. Participate in event
  • Work with Volunteer Program Coordinator, who assists in supporting the VHRP
  • Take part in the Home After Harvey repair program
  • Participate in planning and execution of special events.


  • Knowledge of construction work scope, including skills to plan and execute all details of a large project
  • Ability to manage a budget
  • Interpersonal skills to manage contractors and volunteers
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other managers and directors
  • Ability to lift 100 lbs
  • Concise communication skills, both written and orally
  • Spanish desired, but non-essential

Education: Bachelors
