Rebuilding Together was awarded the Mayor's Proud Partner award at the 30th annual Keep Houston Beautiful luncheon. The award was given for the work that we did in the Magnolia Park neighborhood - replacing the playground equipment at DeZavala Park, repairing 5 homes in the area and landscaping DeZavala school. The project was in partnership with Lowes and their Rebuild-a-Block program. Work was performed in November 2013.
The Rincons purchased their home more than 20 years ago, and now have two grandchildren who attend the East End's Rusk Elementary School, where BBVA Compass and the Dash will host a soccer clinic for students next month. The home improvements, some of which were completed earlier, were made through a donation from the BBVA Compass Foundation. Those repairs included the installation of new plumbing, windows and screen doors.
The Building a Better Houston initiative began in 2012. Multiple events are held throughout the year as part of the initiative, such as financial education events and soccer clinics. On July 26, the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup will be played at BBVA Compass Stadium, and will help fund the initiative's Business of Sports program for local high school students in the fall.
