“Rebuilding Together is a wonderful organization that allows us the opportunity to give back to people who have been much less fortunate than many of us. The two or three days of work allow us to get our hands dirty and seriously impact someone’s life for the better. It’s a moving experience and something I appreciate being a part of.”
Clay Garcia, BHP Billiton
For the past 21 years, Rebuilding Together has worked with the National Football League in Super Bowl cities across the country, repairing homes and revitalizing communities. In the 17 months leading up to the Big Game, Super Impact 17 will help 500 homeowners in need, utilize thousands of volunteers, and engage new companies, organizations, and individual supporters. Houstonians will get to know—and participate in—the important work that Rebuilding Together Houston does in our community.
As a culmination of Super Impact 17 and the arrival of Super Bowl LI, Rebuilding Together, with our presenting partner Lowe’s, will host a neighborhood revitalization event called Kickoff to Rebuild. From Monday, January 30 through Friday, February 3, 2017, Rebuilding Together Houston will host a community revitalization project to rehabilitate the historic Independence Heights, which is the first self-governing African American city incorporated in the State of Texas. This large-scale project will celebrate the history of this neighborhood, help to keep families in their homes where many have lived for generations, help to retain affordable housing in Houston, foster community pride and encourage economic development. Preservation of the Independence Heights community is important, not only for Houston, but also for all of Texas!
