bp America Celebrates 450th Volunteer Project With Rebuilding Together

Rebuilding Together and bp America partnered in 1989 with a vision of repairing the homes of low-income senior citizens and veterans. Over the past 32 years, bp America has been a solid supporter of Rebuilding Together, and their volunteers have repaired the homes of 449 Houston families. Starting this past Saturday, bp America volunteers and Rebuilding Together are repairing the home of Ms. Smith as their 450th project together.

Ms. Smith lives in the Greater Old Spanish Trail/South Union part of Houston. She purchased the home in 1965 with her husband Percy, an Army veteran and US Postal Service employee who passed away in 1998. Her home was in poor condition and Ms. Smith struggled to find the help she needed to make repairs.

She found Rebuilding Together, and we hired contractors to complete structural repairs at no charge to Mrs. Smith. It was time for external volunteer repairs, but Rebuilding Together postponed that work due to health concerns over COVID-19.

On Saturday, October 16, bp America volunteers worked on the Smith home, which needed extensive siding repairs, caulking and painting to make the home a healthier and safer place for Ms. Smith to live.

This amazing milestone highlights the strength of the partnership between Rebuilding Together and bp America, and our impact together on families in our community. We look forward to many projects in the future.
